    Remember to have your students practicing letters/sounds and sight words.  Right now we have done 10/52 letters/sounds and 9/50 sight words. See the Overview below for what your student should know currently without help. The students have begun reading small books. The goal is for kids to be reading and writing simple sentences by this December.

    Overview:

    Story of the week: I like myself by Karen Bauemont

    Letter/Sound for the week: Aa

    Cumulative Letters/Sounds: Mm, Ss, Tt, Bb

    Sight Word: am, go

    Cumulative sight words: a, the, see, I, at, my, by, to

     

    Language Arts Centers:

    Reading: At Bat

    Writing: At night, I go to bed.

    Math Centers:

    1. NUmbers 1-5- One smaller and one bigger

    2. Counting backwards from 10-0

    3. Counting from 1-50

    4. Coding cars

     

    Number Rhymes: (Rhymes to help kids write their number, Always start from the top down)

    1- A one for fun

    2- Around and Back on a Railroad Track

    3- Around a tree, Around a tree , that’s the way to make a three

    4- Down and over and down some more, That’s the way to make a four

    5- Down the Street, around the corner, Whoops I forgot my hat

    6- A hoop and loop

    7- Across the sky and down from Heaven, that’s the way to make a 7

    8- Make an S but don’t be late go back up and shut the gate

    9- A hoop and a line make a nine

     

    Social Studies:  We talked about 9/11 using the book, “This Very Tree: A Story of 9/11, Resilience, and Regrowth” by Sean Rubin.  We also talked about first responders and what they do to keep our community safe.  We did not go into details, as parents can choose how much to share at this young age. 

     

    Science:  We are learning about stars and planets.

    Color Week:

    Starting Tuesday 9/3- Tuesday 9/17, we will be learning a new color each day. Kids are asked to wear a special color each day.  Look for the yellow Fyler in your students backpack for a list to put on your fridge or mirror to remember what day each color is.
