Arizona College and Career Ready Standards

In the early 1980s, A Nation at Risk: The Imperative for Educational Reform, a report the National Commission on Excellence, provided evidence that schools were failing.  The publication prompted a series of reformations that ultimately led to the implementation of standards. “In 1994, President Bill Clinton enacted the Improving America’s Schools Act, which reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965. Under Improving America’s Schools, all states were required to establish standards for every subject and grade level” (Apex Learning, 2017, para. 2).  

Applying standards to students’ learning and allowing them to guide instruction set clear and measurable goals for all students to work towards. Students understand what they are learning, why they are learning it, and how to know if they have learned it.
