BGHS is committed to providing continuous opportunities to demonstrate achievement and personal growth in a collaborative student-centered community of diversity and kindness. Graduates of Barry Goldwater have a significant edge with post-secondary opportunities because it offers a unique and rigorous approach to learning. BGHS is a standards-based school and through the implementation of our sophomore project and the senior institute ensure students satisfy prescribed exit outcomes including habits of mind, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and life skills. The feature of the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme which is designed to help adolescents find a sense of belonging in the ever-changing and increasingly interrelated world around them and to foster a positive attitude toward learning.BGHS has a state of the art Culinary Arts program, honors and advanced placement (AP) courses, as well as a full complement of elective and core classes serving the needs of each student.

School Community
Barry Goldwater High School, opened in 1986 and remodeled in 2011, is a large, comprehensive, suburban public high school located in a light industrial park. The school community is considered low to low-middle socio-economic status consisting of 48% Caucasian, 38% Hispanic, 9.2% African American, 3.6% Asian/Pacific Islander and 3.5% Native American and 55.2% are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
Grades, Weight and Ranking
GPA for all students is on a 4.0 Scale and includes all courses except courses graded on a Pass/Fail basis. Class rank is based on the weighted GPA. Graduation requirements consist of 22 credits: 4 Language Arts, 4 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Studies, .5 Health/Physical Education, 6 Elective credits and 1 Fine Arts or Career Technical Education.
