•  2024-2025 BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
    12th Annual DVEF BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

    Fifth and sixth grade students compete in teams of one, two or three students (with a minimum of 4 teams per school and a maximum of 30 teams per school) to test their knowledge in two exciting school competitions during the 2024-2025 school year. Points are cumulative for the year, and the winning team from each school will move on to the district-wide competition.

    The first step is to sign the Student-Parent Agreement.

    When all the team members have their agreement forms turned in, they may fill out the Team Form. 

    Teams are assigned three different books to read for each competition. The top scoring team from each school ( cumulative from both school Battles) will compete in the district finale April/May 2025.

    The 2024-2025 books are:

    Battle 1 (OCTOBER/NOVEMBER):

    • Healer of the Water Monster, Young
    • Invisible, Gonzales
    • Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key, Gantos
    • Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, Coerr

    Battle 2 (JAN ):

    • The City of Ember, DuPrau
    • Doll Bones, Black
    • Jennifer Murdley's Toad, Coville
    • Frindle, Clements

    Battle 3 (MARCH):

    • Chasing Vermeer, Balliet 
    • Maniac Magee, Spinelli
    • Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, O'Brien
    • Sarah Plain and Tall, MacLachlan

     

     

    All Battle dates are tentative and subject to change due to unforseen conflicts.
    Participants, staff and parents will be notified via school announcements and e-mail of any changes.
