Hello and welcome to sixth grade! My name is Ms. Ray, and I am the 6th Grade Math Teacher at Mirage Elementary School!  I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor’s in Educational Studies and received a Master’s in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University with an endorsement in middle school mathematics. Having taught 3rd grade for the past 4 years, moving to the Deer Valley District to teach 6th-grade math is an exciting new adventure that has me collecting all sorts of creative math jokes (be prepared). My children have attended Mirage Elementary for 6 years, and I am thrilled to join the Roadrunners!

My three daughters and I are native to Arizona and often escape the city for the day or weekend to enjoy cooler weather in the northern areas of our state. We love spending time together; traveling, hanging out at the pool, visiting our local library, playing volleyball at the park, camping, crafting, playing board/card games, and heading to the beach for the weekend as often as possible! 

 This year, I am excited to bring learning to life through a thinking classroom that encourages students to think creatively and critically while working collaboratively to grapple with mathematical tasks. We will learn and apply various math concepts using Illustrative Mathematics and Zearn, covering ideas of geometry, ratios, unit rates, percentages, and dividing fractions. While delving into real-world problems, we will make cross-curricular connections to reading, writing, science, and social studies.
