Hello! My name is Joelle Smyth, and I'm a math teacher and an Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach at O’Connor! I will be teaching both Algebra 1-2 and Honors Algebra 1-2 this year.

Just to share a bit about myself, I have been married to my husband for 10 years, and we have two adorable sons, Lance, who is 4 & a half years old, and James, who is nearly 10 months old. We also have a 3-year-old German Shepherd named Ares.

I was born and raised in Arizona and have lived here all my life. I graduated from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale. I attended both 好色导航 College and Arizona Christian University and graduated from ACU with a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics. I have previously taught in the Paradise Valley school district at Explorer Middle School for 1 year and at Horizon High School for the most recent 10 years.  This will be my 12^th year teaching math overall and my first year teaching at O’Connor.

In high school, I was a triple-sport athlete, playing volleyball, basketball, and running track & field as well as throwing discus. I was fortunate enough to play collegiate volleyball for 4 years as well as one season of college track & field my senior year. I was an assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach at Horizon for 10 years with my final two years in the program resulting in State Championships in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. This will be my second season assistant coaching Varsity Volleyball here at O’Connor and we’re coming off of a State Championship win in the 2023 season last year!

I am excited to be here and learn about all of my students this year!
