Mr. Marano

Dear 6th Grade Families,

Welcome to Mr. Marano's Page!

Currently I am entering my 27th year of teaching in the Deer Valley Unified School District. All twenty-six previous years have been served teaching in the sixth grade!  I do believe this experience gives me a very accurate idea of what the reasonable expectations are for our students. Over the years I have taught all of the different subjects, but I have a passion for and will be teaching social studies and science again this year.  While I'm pleased to be able to focus on my favorite subjects, I also want you to know that I am thrilled to be one of your child's teachers this year!

As to my education, I attended Deer Valley High School as a freshman back in 1981, although my family later moved and I graduated from nearby Greenway HS.  From there I became a Gaucho, having earned my Associates degree from Glendale Community College.   I then transferred and graduated from ASU West with a BAE in Elementary Education in 1997.  In 2003, I earned my Master's degree in Educational Leadership from NAU.  I am currently dual certified as both a teacher and as a principal. I'm also highly qualified by the Department of Ed in all four subject areas.

I also wanted to share with you that two of my own children attended school in DVUSD, starting at Bellair, then Desert Sky, and finally they graduated from Deer Valley High School. My daughter went on to graduate from ASU in 2019 and my son graduated from NAU in 2020. I'm very proud of my kids, but I am also proud of and confident in the work we do together here to prepare your child for success both this school year and in their future.

I'm looking forward to getting to know your child and to having a great school year!

Warmly,

John F. Marano, MEd
