    Read 180 Class R.OA.R. Placemat

In Read 180, students will be working hard to improve their Literacy skills. We will work collectively and individually to reach our goals.

Read 180 has two components; a student manual and computer software. Each day, students will be working on specific skills with me as well as working in their software through the course Zones. Each segment in the Zones focuses on a variety of topics. As students complete each segment, they will Level Up if they perform well.

Our goal is to make literacy gains and improve individual Lexile levels. Students will be collecting their own data and watching their growth throughout the year. We will take assessments in the Read 180 software, as well as Benchmark assessments using MAP NWEA. I will often send home assessment data and newsletters to fill parents in on what is happening in Read 180.  To continue growing, students should be reading novels and texts that interest them. I encourage all students to read for enjoyment at home.

    Class Mission Statement:

“ I will strengthen my reading skills with a growth mindset & by working hard both individually & collectively. “

    Grading: MS

Middle school is the only class that will receive a grade in Read 180.

Middle school students will receive a letter grade for Read 180. They are graded on many factors, including Assessments, Software, Projects, Writing, & other assigned learning. Students and parents may check their PowerSchool for updated grades.

If students score lower than a 50% on any assignment or assessment, they will automatically be given 50%. If an assignment is not submitted, students will receive a 49% with a "missing" mark. If an assessment score is 70% or lower, students may retake that assessment.

    A little about me:

I am so excited to be part of the Highland Lake's family for yet another school year!! This is my second year at HLS, but I have been in education for 19 years, serving students and families in various communities. Over those 19 years, I have been a classroom Teacher, Instructional Coach, Professional Development Facilitator, & an Assistant Principal.

This school year, I will be serving students in the Highland Lakes Bear Cave! I will also be working with students as a Read 180 Instructor for grades 4th - 8th.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family doing all things active. My son, who also attends HLS, and I like to hike and do fun runs together. I have 2 boys, ages 2 and 7 that keep me pretty busy! I have been married to my husband, Robert for 11 years. He and I enjoy watching movies and going out for nice dinners together.

I am looking forward to a fantastic 24-25 school year here at Highland Lakes!

Please contact me if you need anything. You can also check out my staff website on the Highland Lakes webpage.
