COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Our coaching philosophy will be focused on two key points: having a “blue-collar” work ethic and a “buy-in” to the program and the philosophy. We will help to develop student-athletes through teaching and coaching to become better athletes and citizens. Our goal is to help them become the adult, spouse, and parent that they someday wish to be. We want each wrestler to compete in a healthy, positive learning environment.  Our goal is that each student-athlete will be able to put forth the same work ethic and dedication they will learn from this program in their daily lives. 

We believe in hard work, discipline, openness (approachability), honesty, loyalty (to the team, the plan, and to oneself), and dedication to excellence (sport and life), and fairness (equality when dealing with others).

We believe in teaching fundamental skills and verbally reinforcing proper technique, form, and performance. We will also focus on the mental aspect of wrestling and life skills. We truly believe in the saying of Hall of Fame Coach Dan Gable, “Once you have wrestled … everything else in life is easy!”

 We believe that in order for a coach and student-athlete to reach their top potential, they must be able to push beyond what they believe to be their physical and emotional limit, on and off of the mat.  In the spirit of true competitiveness, to get one’s best requires one to give one’s best.  Nothing can replace hard work and commitment; this is true for everyday life and on the wrestling mat. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
