Ms. Misty Amos

I knew at a very early age what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be a teacher. Some of my earliest memories involve teaching my stuffed animals and baby dolls how to read and write. As I grew, every choice I made was deliberate and brought me closer to my dream of teaching. I was very fortunate to know, without a thread of doubt, what I wanted to do with my life. My path was set clearly before me.

In December 2000, I graduated from Arizona State University West with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. My career started with a job teaching 6th grade with the Deer Valley Unified School District in August 2001. The next year, I transferred to a 3rd grade teaching position and loved it. I taught in 好色导航for 7 years, primarily as a 3rd grade teacher. During that time I participated in many professional development trainings and received endorsements in Early Childhood Education and Structured English Immersion.

In 2008 I moved to Tyler, Texas. I taught 2nd and 3rd grades in the Tyler Independent School District and I completed my Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement from Northern Arizona University. In the summer of 2011, I had my fill of the great state of Texas and moved back home to 好色导航. I was honored to accept a 3rd grade position, teaching a Gifted Cluster class, with 好色导航and began taking classes for my Gifted Endorsement, which I received in 2012.

In August 2012, I began teaching 3rd Grade students in the Renaissance Gifted Academy at Highland Lakes. What a wonderful 11 years it has been! My students are amazing and I am always really heartbroken over sending them on to 4th Grade. I miss them so! I know that I have a whole new group of amazing 3rd Graders coming up. I look forward to the exciting year ahead!

I strive to create a classroom environment where my students are inspired and stimulated to do their best. I encourage my students to take risks and show their creativity as they learn. My lessons are designed using practical, real life problems that students are encouraged to think through and solve. My students are encouraged to show evidence of their learning by creating hands-on projects and presentations. In my experience, children will rise to the occasion if expectations are held high and they are supported with love, guidance and encouragement.

In all, I have 23 wonderful years of teaching under my belt. Each and every year, I start out as the teacher, excited to teach and motivate my new students. However, I learn so very much from my students, that by the end of the year, I become the learner. I have been fortunate in my life to have a career that I love. My students make that possible.

Not only am I a teacher, I am also a mother. I have two wonderful daughters, Noelle-age 12 going into 7th grade and Irelynn- age 10 going in 6th grade at Highland Lakes School. Rounding out our family is our sweet little dog, Daisy. She's is adorable, snuggly and feisty all at the same time.
