Mrs. Melissa Portela

Welcome to Introduction to Sports Medicine. This class is a part of the Career and Technical Education Program.  It is the first class in the Signature Sports Medicine Program.  
The next is Advanced Sports Med, and then National Academy of Sports Medicine-Certified Personal Training, Physical Therapy Technician and then the Senior Internship class.  
 
Mrs. Portela brings 19 years of teaching experience and is starting her 10th year at OC. 
Classes she has taught include: Medical Foundations, Beginning and Advanced Sports Medicine, Health and Wellness, Weight Lifting/Conditioning, and Personal Training.
 
She is a licensed and certified Athletic Trainer (AT/L)-2002, a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)-2019 and a certified CPR and First Aid instructor-2002.  
 
She grew up in Boise, Idaho and attended Boise State University and California Lutheran University, where she played basketball. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Medicine with an emphasis on Athletic Training, and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction of Exercise Science & Sports Medicine.  After college graduation, she played and coached basketball in Lemvig, Denmark.  
 
She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, competing in triathlons, playing and watching sports, and scuba diving.
