SAGE ReadingThe SAGE Reading Program at Sierra Verde is interdisciplinary in its approach to teaching literature. The program integrates many disciplines that may include, but are not limited to, STEAM components, history, and the arts.Students will develop their critical thinking, which may include but is not limited to the SAGE adopted reading curriculum, from the College of William and Mary, which specializes in curriculum for the gifted learner, Jr Great Books, novels, short stories, nonfiction, and various forms of functional text.Readers will develop a broader and deeper understanding of literary work and examine the writers' craft through the development of their comprehension strategies using Thinking maps, Depth and Complexity, mentor texts, literature discussions, author and/or genre studies. SAGE readers will read a variety of genres throughout the year. Each quarter, students will have a Quarterly Independent Reading goal."If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairytales. Please note: Although writing is integrated within the program, students will receive writing instruction (skills) from their homeroom teachers. The reading grade on the report card will reflect work done in SAGE and the "Writing" grade will reflect work done by the homeroom teacher.“Arizona law requires that public schools
