• I began my teaching career in Litchfield Park, teaching 5th grade with a cluster of gifted students.  During those years, I completed my Gifted Endorsement through Northern Arizona University and then moved to the Deer Valley District.  In Deer Valley, I began teaching in the SAGE program at Sunrise before transferring to Sierra Verde in 2001.  I had the privilege of opening Sierra Verde and developing the SAGE program in 2001.

I love learning and in November of 2012 I accomplished National Board Certification.   I accomplished my Maintenance of National Board Certification in November of 2021.  I achieved National Board certification again in November of 2022.

The National Board Certification is an advanced teaching credential.  As part of my process, I analyzed my teaching context and my students’ needs.  Through this arduous and iterative process, I expanded and refined my content knowledge and pedagogy.  This resulted in my ability to provide more powerful teaching that improves my students’ achievement.  (adapted June 29, 2014, from http://www.nbpts.org/national-board-certification%C2%AE)

Most weekends you will find me spending time with my family and dogs, working in the yard, reading, riding bikes, or baking. I am a mother of two identified gifted children/adults now and a grandmother of three rumbustious grandsons. I love to read and work to instill that passion in my students.  I am looking forward to another fun and exciting school year.

The 2024-2025 school year will be my 28th year of teaching and 25th year of teaching and working with SAGE students.

  • The more you read

    The better you read

    The more you write

    The better you write

    The more read

    The better you write

    The more you write

    The better you read

    And the whole time

    You are thinking.
